Smash, the upcoming musical series from NBC, has been making waves among TV critics and journalists who have already seen the pilot. Noted as one of eight honorees in the “Most Exciting New Series” category at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, the show boasts a dream team of producers including Steven Spielberg, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, as well as talented actors and actresses like Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston , Jack Davenport and Katharine McPhee, just to name a few. In a nutshell, Smash is about the creation of a show and more importantly a star by a group of people who wants nothing more than to come up with the next big thing in the world of Broadway. Songwriter Julia Houston (Debra Messing), her co-writing partner Tom Levitt (Christian Brole), director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport), and producer Eileen Rand (Anjelica Huston) make up the brains behind a musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Together they face the pressure and all the behind-the-stage drama of the theater business while dealing with their own personal issues.
